Northwest remained within striking distance of Emporia State throughout the game Thursday night in White Auditorium, but the Hornets kept the Bearcats at bay with a 9-3 run in the final minutes to earn a 69-58 victory.
Northwest (7-11) still remains in eighth in the MIAA standings and in line for the final spot in the conference tournament with four games to go.
Jillian Fleming hit a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter to bring the 'Cats within one of ESU at 47-46.
The Hornets (15-4) responded with a quick 8-0 run including a pair of threes to extend the lead back to nine points.
A pair of treys from Caely Kesten and another from Molly Hartnett allowed Northwest to cut the deficit to five points, but Emporia State pushed the lead back to 10 points over their next two possessions to seal the win.
Jaelyn Haggard led Northwest with 15 points on 5-11 shooting from three-point range.
Kesten scored a career-high 12 points hitting 4-6 three-point attempts.
Mia Stillman also matched a career-high with 11 points hitting three of four shots from beyond the arc.
Hartnett finished the night with nine points and a game-high seven assists.
Northwest is on the road for the final time in the regular season Saturday afternoon to face Washburn. Tip off from Topeka is set for 1pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 12:30pm.
